The Williamsburgh Historical Society grew from a project to preserve Thorntree House which was built in 1749 and moved to Kingstree and renovated and opened to the public.

The Society started in the homes of local residents and continues to be supported by local citizens and donations from local industry and government. At the beginning of the Society, the focus was on the preservation of Thorntree House.

Today the focus is celebrating all of the history of Williamsburg and in particular, the history of the American Revolution here in Williamsburg.

There has also been a renewing of interest in family history and genealogy and we assist people in their search for family information and history.
